Smile Kawazaki Ki-61 "Tony" WIP

Well friends, another quick model that I think will be finished tomorrow. Another repaint of the Kacper (Pacificwind), this time the Kawazaki Ki-61 Japanese fighter from World War II that needs no introduction. The subassemblies were all completed yesterday, lacking only the construction of the fuselage and the general construction sequence.

My expectation is to finish the model tomorrow.

I think it is a KI-61-I of the 2nd Chūtai (Squadron) of the 19th Hikō Sentai (Flying Regiment) based in Formosa (Taiwan) in 1944.

It's nice to see my another repaint there, Pericles.
This is pobably the best one I've made so far. A really interesting Hien, especially with its rare, blue/purple anti-glare stripe. That's why I liked this particular aircraft. It's just different from the rest of Hiens, thanks to this small detail.

As always you are right Don, this Ki-61 is a pair for my Ki-84, based on Formosa. Both are repaints by Kacper

My Ki-84 repaint was from Leyte, 1944. Not Formosa.

Smile Kawazaki Ki-61 Close to finish

Well my friends here is the kawazaki Ki-61 almost ready, missing some small details. What can I say about this model that it is simple in construction, but forming the fuselage is a complex task because part of the bottom is straight so there is a lot of transition of curves and shapes. I have plans to build other Ki-61s and certainly in the next constructions on this subject I will insert formers (maybe those of scale plants or the Marek model, I think they will help to shape the fuselage more appropriately.
