Birder's Duck

I'm doing a little beta-build of Birder's (Glen's) Grumman Duck. Thus far, this is where I am! The front hull is a hard shape to make but the model, thus far, makes it look really good. I especially like how a main former inserts into the hull with a rounded bulk head "step" and thus makes a nice curve on the top. Other than some direction nit-picks, the model is darn nice so far!

More soon...Dan

Going apace. So far, the only issue I've found is that I think the rear most hull former is a bit too wide to fit all the way at the back end. I just took off about 1.5mm from each side. Overall, the fit is great!

Going well, Glen...Here it is after some more gluing. I think the hull is done. Strong and straight. Directions are definitely helpful since now I understand why you glue the formers to then hull first! I'd have glued them all to the sides etc. and would have been in deep goose droppings when I tried to put on the flat top part!

I must admit...the little fairing on the front of the hull and forward of the landing gear opening isn't going great. For now, I'm leaving that off and starting the main fuselage!

More soon...this is fun.

Making some headway on the fuse. This a mock-up of the hull to fuselage joint. Starting to look like a real duck soon!

Even more. The interior is nice and fits fine. I can't figure out the seats as I thought they were buckets so I needed to curl the leading edge around the front lip but the back doesn't fit. I just cut them off as I'm trying to get this built fairly quickly. I had the same trouble with the rear seat. I think the backing is just too long. Looking at it again...maybe the top sides are supposed to curl around the top rear seat. Hmmm....this may be a "me" problem.

Regardless, the interior fits nicely, the instrument panel looks cool in there and even though it's simple, it is really nicely equipped and certainly looks the part. I like it.

More soon when we'll add the fuselage to the hull!

Thanks Glen and Bob! I also got your fixed forward part, Glen. I'll be adding that shortly.

Got the engine on. Simple, but quite effective! It'll look cool with the cowl ring on.

More soon...Maybe start the wings and tails?

Looks good Dan
I'm not sure what order you like, but I usually put on the lower wing and then can eyeball how straight the tail parts are going on from that, but I'm sure everyone does it the way they like.
