For above application I'm using welding wires in 0.25,0.35 and 0.45 (of an inch) diameters. For larger I have selection of 1/16,1/8 and 3/16 rods but I found anything that needs larger tube than 1/16 is better done with tightly wound copy paper on 0.25 wire.I'll get as much as I need for thickness and result is as strong as wires ,much lighter and stays in place a lot longer.

And.... finished. Canopy gave me some issues-as canopies do- but overall, pretty easy and straightforward model for even a beginner to tackle. As I said at the beginning, because I reduced scale from as designed 1/60 down to 1/100, I dispensed with a lot of the smaller details that Chistoph Stahl provided. Pretty happy with the end result and look forward to doing his other La-7 (and La-5) variants that include captured Luftwaffe and 2 seat trainer versions.

Into the jet age with my next project- Bruno and Ecard recently expanded the already vast A-4 Skyhawk range with the addition of a yummy Royal Australian Navy A-4G (see last pic).

And now one must repair to the modelling desk where objects of wonder and new swear words are born!
Poof! (Rata disappears in a cloud of orange smoke).

I second this! A question: aren't these too brittle? As I recall from my school days, those were real pain in the backs if handled inappropriately.

Best regards,

PGo

Haven't found that to a problem. Mind you on little paper models they're not exactly under stress from the model's weight!
Maybe the lead type (2B, 4H, etc) might have something to do with how more or less brittle they can be. 'H' is for hard and 'B' is for black; and the higher the number the 'harder' or 'blacker' the lead is. Could be the brand as well. Who knows, but these ones work ok for me.

Cheers, Garry G.

Great model. Clean and precise.
I always liked WWII things in latter conflicts. This La-7 was rather used as the attack aircraft. In fighter role it would be useless against Sabres.

Yep. I know Nth Korea also used La-9's and La-11's. Excellent aircraft but don't know if they would have fared any better either.

Neat finish, Rata! I need to give one of those kits a go. Yours turned out great. I may go the other way and enlarge it...see if it still comes out as nice.

Cheers,
Dan

Thanks for that Dan. I may be telling you something you're already aware of, but the original download is actually 1/60 scale. If that's your scale you can just build as is.

Regards, Garry G.
