@ Gene K / MichaelS - please forgive my late answer. Well, it could be calculated but I cheated and simply copied the shape of the inner curve of the second part. The trick is to cut the part and use it as a rule to draw a copy with a soft pencil. Then, with a compass, find the curve center and make offsets: continuous outside and saw-toothed inside.
According to what I read, the plane was not a success because both engines had modest power. The radial engine has 9 cylinders in a single row. The pictures show the engine hub and part of the cylinders. |

Yes and those early jets were real fuel hogs! At least she was a pretty aerioplane. If Leroy Grumman had done this we would all be building his version like crazy!!

@ Glen - the opposite would be surprising but this is not a simple model, either. I'm not complaining The engine is complete. The cylinder heads are always tricky to assemble and the thick paper does not help. Well, it is done… |

@ GeneK - GPM's paper is a bit too thick for parts that have to be curved to a small radius. Sometimes, it is very convenient to delaminate. For other parts, I find it good. Frankly, I don't know the weight. Maybe something between 160 and 200g/m2... @ Glen - each engine may have a different construction. The sylinders on the Fireball are modeled in much the same way as in the "average" Halinski. So, it is hard to choose from. The external tanks are modeled in 9 sections and both extremities have slices to get rounded tips. There are no card formers and, as the cross-section is circular, it was not a problem. |
