Douglas TBD Devastator, 1/100 NOBI, PacificWind recoloration

Greetings to all. Here is the Devastator of NOBI with the recoloration of Kacper. A magnificent design as well as the recoloración.A perfect combo. Everything fits perfect, follow the advice of NOBI and use thicker paper and the change is remarkable, much easier to manipulate, without fear of being dented, and left much more rigid. Some pictures of the WIP.

And the end. The photos are not the best, tomorrow I'll see if I get better in the light of day, advice from Kacper. It's a lot to learn on this scale, I consider the Devastator my best 1/100 so far. Thank you very much.

Very fine work.

This is Kacper's mid-war TBD Bureau of Aeronautics Number (BuNo) 1517 used for training at Naval Air Station Miami (1/100 TBD Devastator - BuNo.1517, NAS Miami, Florida (NOBI, PacificWind's Recolors)).

The beautiful three-toned camouflage scheme was promulgated on 5 January 1943 by the Bureau of Aeronautics and remained in effect until 26 June 1944, when all carrier aircraft were repainted overall glossy sea blue, a dark blue color. There was other variations for anti-submarine, training, and other types of aircraft, but most Navy airplanes carried the three-tone scheme in 1943 through the summer of 1944.

The red-outlined national insignia was only in effect from 28 June to 31 July 1944, after which, the outline was changed to blue. Because it was felt that the red outline could be confused with the red Japanese Hinomaru (rising sun) insignia, the red was painted out very quickly in the Pacific, and I think it would have been a rare airplane that still carried the red outline anywhere by the fall of 1943.

The combination of three-toned camouflage and red-outlined insignia indicates that this TBD is in colors and markings that it carried from the summer and possibly into the early fall of 1943. As Kacper says, "mid-war."

Fantastic build Sergio. You have every right to be proud. Please take some more photos in natural light- I reckon it will really show Kacper's effort on the camo at it's best.
