You almost finished it, and it looks great. Very well done, Michael.

Spitfire is coming together nicely, Michael. It must be old NOBI's design. There should be roundels on the underside. I've never seen a British WWII plane without roundels on wings.

Air Ministry Order A.154/39: "Fighter aircraft are not to carry the national marking on the lower surface of the wing tips."
I am cautious in using Wiki as a source, but the Wiki article on RAF camouflage and markings appears to be pretty reliable (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Air_Force_roundels): "in May [1940], an order was made to put red, white, and blue roundels on the underwings of all fighters, with an addendum that where the roundel was on a black background it should be outlined in yellow. In June, orders were given for the half black/half-white underwing scheme to be replaced by "sky"[12] Underwing roundels were dispensed with until August when they were ordered back." [Emphasis added.] As Michael notes, and as Michael J F Bowyer recounts from personal observation, there was a lot of variation in 1940 ["Summer 1940," Fighting Colours: RAF Fighter Camouflage and markings 1937-1969, London: Patrick Stephens, 1969, pp. 32-35. Found these references to your airplane, Michael:
Spitfire Mark IBs, R6908 “QJ-F” and X4272 :QJ-D”, of No. 92 Squadron RAF, accompanied by Mark IA, X4561 “QJ-B”, taking off from Manston, Kent (probably late summer 1940). https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/i...ject/205210050 On 11 August 1940, Spitfire Mk I QJ-B struck QJ-K while P/O Lionel H "Buck" Casson of No 616 Squadron RAF was taking off from RAF Leconfield for a training flight at 18.28, breaking off the port undercarriage leg. Continuing in the run to get airborne, the 25-year-old pilot flew a circuit and on return made a crash-landing. After Cat R/FA damage was recorded, the aircraft was taken away for repair in works. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/509047564116393822/ |

Phenomenal research my friend. It is always to names and dates to these replicas we construct.

Finished up this little jewel this morning. Even though it is one of Nobi's earliest works it goes together very nicely. The only thing I can fault is the lack of the undernose carburetor intake. There is one on his 1/100 Hurricane but I am not good enough with all this magic software to recolor it from Sky to light gray. So this little flaw will just be between us.
Thanks to Don B for his historical fill in earlier. Here is the full build album for anyone who is really bored... https://photos.app.goo.gl/d2KWx5y1yXr1EbUS8
