Kugisho R2Y2 Keiun experimental concept jet
Back when Ecards was going thru their second phase in 2019, I purchased 3 experimental jets from their site. I already built the Lavochkin La-150 ( Lavochkin La-150 1/33 scale ), and next will be building this Japanese concept jet based on an actual prop version that did fly late in the war.
For whatever reason, Ecard does not carry this model ( by Marek design ), however for those interested, I did find it on Zarkov web site : Kugishu R2Y2 Keiun by Marek Pacyński :: Models by Marek :: Card Models :: ZarkovModels Store the prop version R2Y1 model is also available : Kugishu R2Y1 Keiun by Marek Pacyński :: Models by Marek :: Card Models :: ZarkovModels Store Here are some images from the web on the jet version and the prop version I found this interesting link on a computer simulation site talking about this hypothetical aircraft: https://wiki.warthunder.com/R2Y2_Kai_V1 More info soon and my build log as well. Anyone built this model or knows of anything on the build for this model? It looks simple enough for me to build, but any insights are welcome. Isaac

Interesting that it resembles the Gloster Meteor more than the Me-262.

Isaac,
This will be very interesting. I look forward to seeing an Imperial Japanese aircraft. Gary

I totally agree with Yale, it looks like a Meteor. Seeing forward for your construction.

however... The intended jet engines for this aircraft project were axial flow compressor jets similar to the Me-262. Those engines were slung completely under the wings in an enclosed nacelle. I am not sure why the rendering shows an upper "hump" other than some accessories poking thru needed a fairing. The British meteor had radial flow compressor jets which were large diameter short engines. Those fit in between the wing spars and were faired at the inlet area since those engines were not sensitive to irregular air flow up front. Anyhow, the Japanese were years away from operational jet engine powered aircraft despite gaining some information from Germany during the latter years of WW2. Primarily, they had little information or experimental data regarding long engine inlet ducts. Thus the short nacelles slung under the wings. And the Me-262 was a good starting point to imitate. The Kikka is another example of a Japanese jet that actually flew. The Soviets did the same with their Suchoi 9 ( 1st designation ). my comment: By 1945, there was nothing they could do against the relentless air bombardment and most projects were just that. I am always fascinated by experimental and project planes and this is one I barely knew. Thank you for your observation. Isaac

Interesting jet I've never heard of.I'm looking forward to construction because of that and because it's Marek designed model.
Marek does some very interesting subjects but some of his choices of marketing are really strange and it seems his models are all over the place at prices that sometimes vary greatly (not sure if that's still the case). Personally I think it's too bad he seems to concentrate on really complex 1:33 models instead of a bit simpler 1:50 scale where he did great. |
