He-115 Winter camo scratchbuild

The He 115 was a general purpose floatplane, suitable for patrol and for anti-shipping strikes with bombs and torpedoes. It was not an heroic plane, it made not to the great news or did incredible feats. It just was a good plane, good looking, that did it's job as requested.
Personally, long time ago I assembled the Matchbox plastic model of this plane and, like I did with the Stranraer, I feld the need to rebuild it as a paper model. But seen that there is not a model of this plane, I decided to make mine.

Seen the documentation, I found the only existing surviving airchaft, now being restored here Heinkel115 project – Responsible publisher of this website is Flyhistorisk Museum Sola

But I'll probably make at least another version, the one depicted in the matchbox box in winter camo. The original scale is going to be 1/72, but like my Stranraer, it will be later rescaled to 1/33.

Another interesting and historically worthwhile scratch building project. I look forward to watching this one develop and take shape.

Usually a plane is assembled with just the sections of the fuselage printed as conical skins that are reinforced with circular or oval sections in the extremes. But I like the "backbone and ribs" reinforcements that I used in the Stranraer, the ones that came originally from naval paper models.
So I'm going to use them here, too.
The vertical tail is finished. And the backbone seems finished, but I'm sure there will be changes here. The model will be made in a way that you can replace easily the windows surfaces with transparent acetate. In fact, the Stranraer was made this way too.
The engines will have two versions, too: easy and expert. And I have a feeling that the plane will be finished quickly.

Thanks, Diego!

The specific plane that I selected was involved in the attacks against the PQ-17 convoy, and because that, I'm placing the already cut parts with my Ju-88that seems to be (data is sketchy) involved in the same attack. Both are at the same 1/72 scale.

I'm dubios about including the swastica in my default model or releasing a censored plane with a free uncensored replacement.

The fuselage is advancing, same with the placement of the wings. So far a lot of the work is investigative, like the changes of the chin sigth and the differences between the british version of the He 115 and the german ones. The parts displayed (except the tail) are more a guide than real parts.
I expect to start to print the final fuselage and tail this week, and the cockpit and chin the next one (You know, real life has priorities).

Well, this week has seen the first trials of the fuselage.
The He 115 fuselage is oval, not rounded like one can be accustumed.
Tomorrow I hope to find open the cartridge store, and buy the color ink. It will let me finish this plane just like I want.

I had wrote that this plane would have a squeleton like my Stranraer, but it was unnecessary. Instead, just a series of ovals will be used. Except the floats, they will still need the full internal structure to allow the complex curves of the part.
