Looking for SAAB J21R in 1/33 scale
Anyone know of a paper model of a SAAB J21R? It is the first SAAB jet fighter developed from a pusher propeller type?
Saab 21R - Wikipedia I am building the entire SAAB jet fighter series and this is the one that I can't find. I need it in large scale ( so no 1/72 or 1/100 scale or smaller please ). Thanks Isaac

Nobi has a 1:48 scale version of the aircraft, someone who has contact with him, needs to check on availability with him

THAIPAPER WORK has the SAAB 21a piston engine in 1-48 scale. The j21r is a jet engine development of the a model. Are you willing to do a conversion project?

Thank you for the information. I do not have the skills to convert the propeller version to a jet using paper design. I have done this in plastic, but that is not the same. but, for now, I will see if I can get NOBI's version. Thanks again Isaac

It's not easy to convert a J-21A to a J-21R. I used to have that idea too, but in reality it would require:
- a new fuselage (at least from the cockpit back) - new vertical tail surfaces - auxiliary tanks on the wingtips, which the J-21R carried as standard, due to the high fuel consumption. But I would also like to have an "R" in my collection ... :-)

I have converted a J21A to a J21R in plastic. It was no too complicated. The fuselage after the cockpit and above the wing needs to be designed, but anyone knowledgeable and has the software to develop the parts can do it. The inlets are not too complicated either. As to the vertical fins, it is a small modification in the side view and also, the horizontal fin and elevator are now on top of the vertical fins and that too is minor. As to the fuel tip tanks, I would use the ones that Yoav designed for his Tzukit ( Fouga magister ) since other than the paint job are very similar. So bottom line, it is very doable by those possessing the skills in paper. Since I am mostly a builder and a technical advisor, I am not the one to design or modify. Isaac

Old conversion
About 15-20 years ago, I built the entire SAAB jet fighter series in 1/72 scale plastic. I could not at the time find the J21R jet version, so I purchased two Heller kits and converted one of them using wood and plastic scraps. Not the best of works, but it did the job with these small models.
Here are some photo comparisons: both models Prop and jet here is the prop pusher version and the R jet modification jet tip tank here ( from a Fouga Magister trainer ) tail of the jet tail of the prop version Just information. Isaac
