Doug -

Those in-progress images of your Hayabusa over Palembang, or maybe Dagua, look great. Can't wait to see the finished bird.

I'm no help on the drop tank question. Perhaps a query in the J-Aircraft forum would be in order. Michael Claringbould (mclaring in that forum) or Osamu Tagaya (Osamu T in that forum) should be able to help.

Best wishes (and greetings from Jim Di Crocco).

Don

Thanks for the advice, Don, I will have to check into that. The great thing about these drop tanks is that I can easily leave them off, complete the model, then always come back and add them later if needed.

I am currently struggling through adding the oil cooler underneath the fuselage. I am sure I messed up somewhere, fitting a compound curve part to a compound curve part, so not a knock on the kit itself, just me the maker! Anyway, I am getting through it bit by bit.

Slightly different location in theater, but I was able to finish Lundstrom's "The First Team at Guadalcanal," which is amazingly thorough, and am now reading Toll's "The Conquering Tide."

Tell Jim hello for me, I have two coworkers out there last week and this week finishing up. It is hard to believe it's been two years since I was there. Still one of the highlights of my career to date. Sometimes I wish I could teleport out there and just sit in your all's seminar again.

After a long delay, this one is finally finished.

I failed to get the slots built for inserting the landing gear beforehand complete, so in this case necessity was the mother of invention. I instead drilled holes in the wing, then made a smaller circular tube from cardstock that the florist wire that sticks up out of my landing gear could fit into. While a bit trickier, it allowed me to get a better orientation of the landing gear out of the leading edge of the wing, as otherwise trying to guess it while still a flat piece of paper would have been tricky.

After drying in place, I used a small hobby micro-saw to saw it off nearly flush with the wing, so it is not too far out of place. I almost liked this method better.

Nice work, Doug. It's a good-looking Hayabusa.

Your work around for the landing gear is reminiscent of something I did with stick-and-tissue models.

Thanks everybody, and thank you Gary for your earlier thread on your Nobi Oscar, I referred to it quite a bit as I went along.

Thankfully everything should be nice and quiet for JAAF forces in New Guinea for now. Or, is it???
