Great that you got to see some of the planes there. Depending on the year you were there, mostly Dash 8-400 and Global 5000/6000 were being assembled in Dowsview.

I spent 3 years in Downsview and the last 2 years full time as part of the GE support to install our Passport engine on the Global 7000 supersized business jet. It was fun to walk by and work on those planes and watch them fly.

Here is a group photo with me on the left side next to my engine installed on the Global 7000. I was the onsite engine and nacelle engineer.

Interesting background information Isaac, and good to see another Skyline model being built. By speaking of odd scales, when I built the Eastern DC-9 a few years ago I had to reduce the scale slightly to 1:76 to be able to print the letter sized pdfs onto A4 paper. A4 is narrower than letter, so that's why. Still have the B767-200 on the stack (Martinair), which is quite a model in terms of size.

Good luck with this one, I like the fine aerodynamic lines of the CRJ-200. Will follow you on this build with great interest!

I too have the B-767 in 1/72 as well as the Eastern Airlines DC-9 in the same scale to go. Did you post any pictures of the DC-9 build?

My paper supply for printing models is in A4 format, so I will have to pay attention. I prefer to stay with the 1/72 scale though.

Exclamation Fuselage

This airliner fuselage like most is all cylinders and tubes with cones at either end. Main reason technically is that it is the most efficient shape for a pressurized vessel. There are other shapes possible especially in composite material and maybe when 3D printing of large structures will be mature.

Here are the parts and partial assembly.

Note : the camera I use ( Cannon ) went crazy with the flash setting and flooded the pictures with too much light before I stopped it. I still can't restore the setting and after these series of pictures, I reverted to no flash with auto setting and extra external lighting.

Here you go:

Skyline Papermodels DC-9-31 Eastern Airlines

Simply a wonderful model to build and I love the Eastern livery. Would be great if you prioritize this one in your build schedule .

Cheers,
Erik

Great, I will follow your build as well for any issues that may come up.

Eastern was my favorite airline until Frank Borman ( ex astronaut ) and then finally Frank Lorenzo took over. They and the other overpaid managers that thought better ruined a good airline.

Exclamation Nose section

Here is the nose section. Remember to add the weight if you plan on a landing geared version.

I added separate strips to glue the windshield on.

Here is the nose gear bay. The reality is that only a tiny rear door is open when the gear is down and nothing can be seen inside.

Isaac,

The fuselage looks great, nice work (again). Skyline models definitely have the parts close to the edge of the paper. You have to watch out.

Erik- Fantastic DC-9 Build.
