And... the fuselage is finished. Now comes the tail, that will be ready tomorrow but won't be glued until I design the wings.
The tail will be designed in a way that the moving surfaces would be cut easily if you want to improve the plane. In fact, all the horizontal surfaces could be moved /trimmed just like the real ones can do.

The tail is draw, now I must design two ribs for the stabilizer, print all the parts and assemble.
I'm detailing too much the tail, I know. But I like that it has all the details that I can place, and that it will be used in all the Dc-9 series, from this Dc-9-14 to the Dc-9-51. Anyway, this afternoon I'll publish the pictures of the assembled tail.

Assembling the elevators.
As you can see they can be rotated over a shaft, just like the real one does. The Dc-9 doesn't have full elevators, but stabilizers and elevators. The detail is that the trim of the plane is achieved tilting the stabilizer instead of the tabs of the elevators. And then, why the Dc-9 elevators has tabs? Well... Why Are MD80 Elevators Split? - Paperblog Anyway, tonight or tomorrow I'll finish the tail section and proceed to design the wings and wing roots.

And the tail is finished. It's incredible how much a new cartridge of ink can speed a model.
Now comes the wings, later the engines and lassst the landing gear.

Tail section looks great Draco. Keep up the great work.

Thanks, Gary!
This is the first sketch of the wing, with the right size but still a lot of work to do. The lower side is different, and Laser Airlines (the prototype's airline) has a different placement of the white line. Of course, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step (Lao-tzu)"

Testing the wing roots.
And yes, the wing was too thin, but the fuselage drawing was just a guide to place this internal structure. Now I'll redesing the frontal and rear supports, and move down (a bit) the central one. And maybe include another support behind. The idea is to have a strong wing root that doesn't let the modeler to have a fallen, melted wing.

The improved wing root with two spars and two formers.
It's possible that when I release the Dc-9-51, this structure will be reinforced internally, remember that all my planes are designed to last at least 30 years... unless a child is near. Now comes the wing glove, the wing, and the wing details.

A bit of everything!
First, the wing gloves are finished. Yes I made the test model a bit... a LOT dirty. Part 4 of the fuselage is too soft. So I designed an internal reinforcement that will prevent that bending. Second, the internal structure of the wings (and half of the skin) is ready. And last, I started the instructions sheet. Tomorrow, to print the wings! And this weekend, engines and maybe the landing gear. And the release in four... five... ten... more than ten liveries. Laser. Avensa. Viasa. Aeropostal. Spanair. Spantax. Hughes Airwest. Others. Get ready!

Completely redesigning the wing. And still isn't finished. But now the top and bottom sides fit true, and the fences, vortillons and flap actuators are marked. Why I'm loosing so much time? Remember that I will be releasing an expansion pack for experts that will include separated flaps, airbrakes and ailerons?
