Cool Mig-17F Gary's repaint

Gary ( aka MacSongLi ) and I are continuing our collaboration in the repainting of certain models we own. Gary is the artist, renderer, artist. I provide technical input. The kudos however are all Gary's!

This time it is a Mig-17 Gary rendered in bare metal, but to look like it has been on the ground for a while and stains are accumulating and streaking downwards.

I have build many Mig-15s ( see my Mig marathon thread )
Mig-15 marathon

as well as Mig-17/Lim 5 and 6.
Mig-17F Gary's repaint-mig-17-hobby-model.jpg

However, we decided on a more realistic natural metal look when compared to previous offering by Hobby Model company and others.

The basis for this repaint is the Model-Kom Shenyang J-5
Mig-17F Gary's repaint-produkty-276715-okladka-j5-jpg-1900-1200.jpg

which is the Chinese built version of the Mig-17F. This model was designed by a fellow modeler and contributor named "Fitter"
The J-5 version is of a North Vietnamese colors. I got to see those closely while in Hanoi in 2013 along with Yu san.

This design was selected as a good model that is relatively simple yet offers a good looking and relatively accurate looking model.

Details soon

Exclamation Previous builds

I built the Maly Modelarz Mig-17 ( really a Lim-6 ) back some 20 years ago. It is in my opinion a wrong depiction of this plane ( especially the nose and inlet ), but then the technology back in the 1960's or 70's . Also, I built the Hobby Model Lim 5 which even though is better is still wrong in many respects. And I also built a model in plastic.

Here are my previous Mig-17's

Model-kom build

For those curious, here is a link to Model-Kom white version build of this plane

MODEL-KOM

The model is also available from other outlets like GPM.pl

However, the model I will build should be much more impressive in its coloration.

Isaac,

Thank you for the accolades. However, this was definitely a collaboration. We have done a lot of work to try to simulate aluminum (a lot of trial and error). I think that we had done a very good job on this kit.

Looking forward to the build!

Cool Fuselage parts

Here are pics of the fuselage sections that were repainted.

Notice the darker streaks and panel lines.

The nose inlet has a small round around it externally.

Exclamation Kit instructions

The original has simple graphic instructions. Those are adequate to an experienced builder, but it would be nice for additional views.

however..

since this is relatively simple model, the graphics is OK.

Note : you will need external reference material as in photos and graphics since there are some errors in these instructions. One example is the landing gear and stance of the plane on the wheels.

example here of reference :

All the sections are round, so its relatively easy to assemble.

Here they are

The fuselage parts look great all laid out on the cutting mat.
Beautiful start on the fuselage. The nose looks very nice.

I'm excited to see this kit to come together.
