The engines came together nicely Isaac, indeed a pity of the seam. It would have made perfectly sense to hide this by the pylons.

I remember the fillets had a very tight fit, similar to Halinski kits (as far as I know) and I put in a lot of effort to mate the wings with the fuselage very accurately. This did the trick for the fillets, but still, as we say in Dutch "more luck than wisdom". Perhaps you can restore here and there as you already suggested, by using an overlay from a print on thin copier paper?

Regards,
Erik

I tried to add an overlay to the fillets on top. Not much better. It may need a whole new set of overlays for them.

and yes, the seams should be hidden as much as possible. This was a good opportunity missed. If someone does a repaint they can relocate the seams inboard.

Exclamation Wheels

The wheel technique I use is to cut layers using a circular cutter just a bit bigger than the finished size and laminate them by gluing the layers. Any center cut outs for the wheel hubs can also be done at this point.

here are the raw wheels before shaping
Douglas DC-9 in 1/72 scale-img_4345.jpg

I then mount it on my mini lathe ( or a rotary tool ) and shape it by sanding.

Next, paint the wheels

wheel hubs are glued , and they are ready.

Exclamation Landing gear

Here are the struts with the double wheels all around
Douglas DC-9 in 1/72 scale-img_4351.jpg

installed in place. I always use super glue to attach the struts to the plane.

here is the nose gear

the plane is now on its gear.

lastly, add the doors and small strut/actuators ( minimal detail ).

Only thing left are the small flap actuator covers , the lower wing fences and small antennas.

and the model is done.

Your layered wheels look much better than the original drum version (which all my models have) from the kit. Pity about the nose gear doors, I forgot that they are mis-colored. I don't think the other versions of the DC-9 have this problem. Great build, thanks for sharing.

Great work on the landing gear, Isaac. They add some nice detailing to the kit.
