Exclamation Fuselage skins

Here are the parts. Straight forward so far.

I did notice that the word "Temptation" on the left side is of one shade of red on all by the last letter , while the last letter "n" is much darker red. That is a printing house error.

Good start. I will enjoy watching you build this one. To my mind, the early 50s was a "Second Golden Age" of aviation, and the Sabre was a classic of the period.

The General Electric J-47 engine with all of it's issues was a key to the Sabre's success. Also it was numerous and powered many aircraft of its day including the B-45, B-47 etc...

as an aside, an aviation book on the North American B-45 Tornado that I helped contribute and edit the engine portion was just published and is available on Amazon. Lots of engine info there. The Author sent me a nice autographed copy with a letter of appreciation.

Thanks for the info on the book and kudos for your contribution (another of your many contributions to the preservation of aviation history).

Thanks Don.

I continue supporting those interested in aviation as well as other topics of interests to me.

Exclamation Aft fuselage

I decided to start in the back sections first then go to the center and then the nose.

For the aft section, I decided to have the air brakes deployed, so removing the area for the housing is needed prior to rounding that section

Exclamation Center forward

here is the center section going forward
F-86E Sabre Hobby Model 1/33 scale-img_3717.jpg

Note:
I chose not to show the gun bay for this build. I think if there was a separate J-47 engine, I would then consider splitting the fuselage showing the engine installed and the gun bays open ( this I did for my Mig-15UTI )
F-86E Sabre Hobby Model 1/33 scale-split.jpg
F-86E Sabre Hobby Model 1/33 scale-engine-removal.jpg

but for this build, I chose not to further complicate an already complicated model.

and its internal framing

frame is inserted and glued

nothing complicated here at this phase.

Red face Nose section

Here is the nose framing. It will support the inner air duct and external skins

first blood. Somehow, I pricked my finger with the knife and bled on the fuselage without realizing it. This was my first screw up.
F-86E Sabre Hobby Model 1/33 scale-img_3734.jpg

I continued to build the nose. However, things went wrong and I never got a smooth transition with the skins. I did not take a picture of the bad outcome.

In my opinion, the frame for the nose was probably a bit larger or not properly located and the skins just got too tight around making it look bad. I should have reduced the framing size by sanding it.

F-86E Sabre Hobby Model 1/33 scale-img_3737.jpg
This was the second screw up

anyhow, I had to cut that nose assembly off.

In hindsight, I should have stopped here and throw the project in the trash.

Red face Temporary repair of the fuselage

At this point after tearing off the nose section, I printed another from the scan I did earlier. However, the printing color was off ( I suspect the scan did not have enough resolution and I am not too familiar with the recoloring techniques ).
F-86E Sabre Hobby Model 1/33 scale-img_3744.jpg

last fit of the air inlet duct.
F-86E Sabre Hobby Model 1/33 scale-img_3746.jpgF-86E Sabre Hobby Model 1/33 scale-img_3747.jpg

the build became just stupid and I should have just trashed it.

I set if off aside while trying to understand what happened and why.

Also,
I reset my Canon camera back to factory setting and it works fine now. For some reason as I was messing with the setting, it kept bad settings and I just could not figure it out. In any case, no more over exposed pictured. I use this camera only for my modeling work as it is in constant need of battery recharging.
