Douglas dc-4e prototype

Hello! I'm currently working in this particular model, the Douglas DC-4E prototype, an American experimental airliner that was developed before World War II. The DC-4E never entered production due to being superseded by an entirely new design, the Douglas DC-4/C-54,
Many of the innovative design features of the DC-4E found their way into the Japanese Nakajima G5N bomber.

There is little technical information to work with, but I've been gathering some info, enough to make the model possible.

I expect the model will be in scale 1/48 and it'll be released at ecardmodels.com

Good luck. A worthwhile project for sure.

I never heard about this plane. It looks like a Douglas take on same specs than bore Boeing 307 Stratoliner. I think there was a French plane very much like it but it had to wait with production till after war.

Due to lack of drawings and detailed blueprints I'll use a different method of designing this time.. the program to use will be exclusively photoshop , the design will be executed by selecting from a database of cones and shapes I have in my computer

The triple tail on the DC-4E was so that the tail would be low enough to fit into contemporary hangars.

The Japanese Navy arranged for Japan Air Lines to purchase the DC-4E prototype and then gave it to Nakajima as the Navy Experimental Type D (image below from Rene Francillon, Japanese Aircraft of the Pacific War), New York: Funk & Wagnalls, 1970, p. 423).

A good article about the DC-4E-derived Nakajima G5N Shinzan to which YK refers is here: Nakajima Experimental Attack-Bomber “SHINZAN” | Weapons and Warfare

I look forward to seeing your model, yankeekilo.

Karol - Are you thinking of the Breguet Br761 series? Image below by RuthAS of a Breguet Br761S No. 03 exhibited at the 1957 Paris Air Salon (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...7_edited-2.jpg).

That's the one Don. Odd looking bird. It would make a great model subject.

Douglas DC-4E... 90% of the parts are completed, not shown here until further development, (secrets I cannot reveal of the new designing method &#128521 so at this point just arrangement and rescaling of all the parts, texture application and beta test to finish the model
