That's right Karol. There's a small museum here in Sydney that's been closed up for years that has, at least as far as I know, the only complete restored Vultee Vengeance in existence. Very sad.

About the XC-99: It actually isn't stored in Dayton. A few years ago it was moved to AMARG down in Tucson, Arizona. I've been told that due to the degradation of the magnesium that it's made from, it will be a long time until it can be restored, if ever.
Another thing I learned was that Pima Air and Space museum actually has a section at AMARG where aircraft earmarked for them are stored. For instance there is a C-5 Galaxy just waiting for them to move it over to the museum. |
