I don't know why the designer decided to separate the upper from the lower section here? Now I got to match another seam......

More details later on this one.

Isaac, it looks like you are discovering some challenges with this kit. It's still a great looking fuselage.

In Hindsight, I think I should have joined the upper and lower sections together to form a single part.

Oh well, next time.

Maybe there is a reason but I remember you once did a GPM Me262 with unnecessarily complicated tail section, so hopefully not the same designer?? More is not always better, less usually is...

Keep up the good work Isaac!

Erik

As I compare this GPM version to the KK one, I notice that GPM goes a bit too much in the part count and detail. The trend I noticed in the past 10 years or so is to make the models that much more detailed and complicated. This is also prevalent with the extreme internal structure.

In any case, the GPM model is very good, but does require lots of patience and experience.

Exclamation Center section-main gear bay

The center section frame supports the main landing gear.
F-104C GPM in 1/33-img_6234.jpg

here are the sub assemblies
F-104C GPM in 1/33-img_6235.jpgF-104C GPM in 1/33-img_6236.jpgF-104C GPM in 1/33-img_6237.jpg

Notice that most of the detail is printed at the floor of the bay. The rest of the detail is in the landing gear struts which consists of many many small tiny parts.

However.......
Very little if any of the detail will show since the main gear doors are mostly closed ( with a small crack opening ). The kit finished photo show the main gear door open which is wrong. On the ground it is all covered up except the small side doors. The main large doors are only open in flight during the retract session and for maintenance on the ground So that is the reason I will not overly detail the gear bay as was suggested.

Good that you bought the laser cut set! I remember cutting out the keel frame white parts in the KK model - still feel the pain in my fingers....

Erik

I know what you mean about the pain. That is the main reason I always try to purchase the laser frames if available.

Exclamation Center section going aft

center frame in place now

note : when the gear bay are installed correctly in the closed mode, you will not see most of the internal details.

the fuselage center skin will now go over the frame

glued

a view from the rear
F-104C GPM in 1/33-img_6245.jpg

fuselage and wing spar frame should be attached to the rear
F-104C GPM in 1/33-img_6247.jpg

I needed to trim the rear framing a bit ( I should have pressed it forward by another mm )
F-104C GPM in 1/33-img_6248.jpg

I re enforced the wing spar with wood stick and a bit of metal paper clip part with super glue ( CA ). I think this is needed because the wings are so thin.
