All,

Here is a new model I'll be starting soon. I've always liked the Avro and the model looks pretty nice "from the box". I won't be repainting this one!

Got the beginning of the simple cockpit done. As usual, bulk heads are backed with 1/32nd sheet balsa. I need to find some good cockpit shots of this thing. I think it needs some dolling up even though I promised myself I wasn't going to do that...we'll see.

Great choice. I have a real one not far from me in museum at Borden Base in Ontario. I've seen it few times and it's a marvellous piece of engineering. I should go back there in the summer. Base has few museums and lots of afv outside on display.

Here is a bit more on the fuselage. It's a little tricky as the whole thing is one piece and folds over the interior frames. In my case, I don't think I was dead square so the underside surface may need to be cut and then repositioned. No problem, though. You can also see the saw tooth prep for the curved turtle deck. Looks pretty good so far.

Little curious on why you left the cockpit "holes" intact. I always have trouble cutting decent holes like this after assembly, but that may just be me.

Start looks very good though, per your usual excellent standards.

Hi Greg...thanks for looking.

I actually pre-cut them a tiny bit before I glued it all together. I think I can then very easily swipe a sharp xacto and remove the holes. I sometimes find that if the piece I'm trying to glue around round forms has holes in it, I get weird edges and tucks. I am trying this "new" way to see if the smooth form will be made, the paper's memory is solid, and that when I cut the cockpits out things remain smooth.

Yep, I see the issue you're trying to avoid here as I've experienced it myself. Another method might be to back the area around the hole with a layer of thin card that won't deform and cut these together, but then you might end up with an out-of-scale edge.

Belatedly weighing in.

Great subject - what a historic aircraft! As I recall, the film about Douglas Bader began with a shot of an AVRO 504K in flight.

I expect to learn a lot from this build, and I always enjoy watching you apply your skill to any paper model.
