Polikarpov I-15bis (152) - Der Kampfflieger 1/100.
Designed between 1932 and 1933 in the Soviet Union by Nikolay Polikarpov, the I-15 was designed to replace the I-5 biplane also designed by Polikarpov and the Tupolev ANT-5 Parasol Biplane/Monoplane (I-4), known initially by the nickname "Chaika " (gull) because of the upper wings with the gull arrangement. It was used in combat in the Spanish Civil War by the Republicans, in the Sino-Japanese conflicts at the hands of the Chinese Nationalists, in the Khalkhin Gol incident, in the Winter War against Finland and in World War II at the hands of Naval Aviation and the Soviet Air Force. against the German invader. The bis version (I-152) was a revision from combat experiences in Spain to improve pilots' visibility by creating a single-span wing and equipped with a Shvetsov M-25 engine (a metric version of the Wright Cyclone engine). The subject of Der Kampfflieger's model reduced from 1/48 to 1/100 scale is an I-15bis (152) of the Soviet Naval Aviation, 13th Independent Squadron, Baltic Fleet "Red Banner" in 1940.
A delicious model to build. Very accurate, complete (with cockpit) and of moderate difficulty, I recommend it, I will certainly build other versions. |

Excellent model Pericles. Roman did some really good looking models.
Finns had few of those and they were used exclusively for training. I-15 had its best days possibly in Spanish Civil War and in China but they got outclassed fast in both theatres. Still, for a brief moment in history of aviation it was top of the line fighter. |
