Exclamation Cockpit area

Lets move to the front now. ( notice that I tend to build built up sections separately regardless of their locations. This way, I have the modules ready when I need them ).

The cockpit area is a built up frame work. It will also be important to locate the side panels later on.

assembled. Note the simple ( and that is an understatement ) interior rendering. The graphics is just hand drawn scribbles...... I don't understand why the designer did not go that extra effort for a better rendering that was available even back in the 1980's ).

Looking good Isaac! The fit of the model is good from what I can see on the pictures. Model must be pretty big, same length more or less as the F104G.

Regards,
Erik

The model is approx the same length as the F-104, around 18 inches ( 45 cm ) long.

As to the fit, it has two things going for it. The first is that there are numerous openings and white areas that can hid the mismatches. The second is this disruptive camouflage that "hides" mismatches ( which will occur with this type of construction ).

Cool Thrust reverser attached

The thrust reverser assembly can be attached at this point. There are 3 paper tangs that would be covered over later

and assembled. The tape holds it in place while it dries.

The fuselage is coming along very nicely, Isaac.

Cool Wings framing

I noticed that the long wing spars are going to be bent if I do not do something about it. So at this point, I added all the pieces that make up the inner wing framing.

Here it is at various phases.

Exclamation Fuselage joining

The designer calls for a butt joining of the forward to the mid section of the fuselage. However, placing the frames exactly at the edge is a bit complicated. For me, this type of mating requires better structural support and careful alignment. So I use wood dowels and spacers to connect the two.

Here it is prior to joining

joined.

Your alignment looks great Isaac. Nicely done, the dowels worked well.
