First flight restored/rebuilt Fokker D-XXI "229"

It is indeep a great looking model

A deeper dive in the short combat history, with a nice side connection...

On may 11 1940 two Fokker T-V's, nr's 850 and 856, escorted by three Fokker D-XXI fighters, nr's 213, 229 and 242, were sent on a mission to destroy the bridges over the river Maas (Meuse) in Rotterdam. The bombs missed their targets and on the way back the formation was attacked by German fighters. Only T-V "856" and D-XXI "242" managed to return safely, the other aircraft were shot down.

Fokker D-XXI "229" flown by sgt Koos Roos got seperated from the formation and recieved hits from three Me-110's. He opened his canopy in order to bail out. The canopy hit the engine of one of the Me-110's causing it to crash. Roos noticed he could still control the aircraft and took cover in a cloud. Coming out of the cloud he found himself on the tail of another Me-110. He opened fire and hit the Me-110 in the engines, causing the second Me-110 to crash as well.
There was little time left for Roos to bail out, but he succeeded and managed to open his parachute just before he hit the ground....

In 2012 Dutch restorer Jack van Egmond recieved permission from the Dutch authorities to rebuild/restore a Fokker D-XXI "229" according to the 1930's specifications, using several orginal parts and a lot of the original blueprints. The project started in 2014.
This week a video was posted on Facebook showing footage of the first flight of Fokker D-XXI "229".
Guess this one will appear on various airshows in the future....
