Designing more parts of the Do-24t.
You can see the difference between the normal (and unfinished) horizontal stabilizer and the photographic and finished vertical one. BTW: I know that some countries have forbidden the swastica. What do you think: It's better to release this model with, without or both versions?

Marek provides a version with and without the swastika in his kits, so that's probably the best practice to follow. I'm sure we are all mature adults who can appreciate on the one hand the arguement that the historical reality was that these aircraft were used in the service of the Third Reich and were decorated with this political symbol, and on the other the fact that it is not only illegal in some countries but is still actively a symbol of hate and extreme political views and represents apaulling crimes against humanity, or worse celebrates their perpetrators. Personally I do not include it as it could cause some trouble in my profession, and I have at least one student who is Jewish who might see my models. I usually follow the practice used in Germany which is to use a square, bars or a simple cross.

Nice work Draco and good to see a RAAF version.
I agree with Siwi re the tail markings: include both versions on the sheet.

Hello Draco,
I agree with Siwi and Rata. Include both versions, so the modeller can deside whitch one he wil build. according to the law of the country he lives. I like your work! Cheers, Wiwo |

Good idea, I'll print both versions and the hobbist can use the one he/she likes more.
Well, more parts finished. Researching the spanish SAR but continuing with the one I had already started. And finished the horizontal stabilizer. You can see the differences a bit of weathering can do. One interesting thing about the SAR one is that it had three paint schemes. I'll probably release a combo with both the operative paint and the museum paint. The main difference is the yellow stripes.

Well, the wing has been designed and assembled.
As always, the Alpha model will be hand-painted, but later I'll be printing and assembling a Beta model of the spanish SAR. At the same time two friends will be assembling the 1/100 and 1/33 versions of the Do-24t Next steps: assemble the tails and elevator, paint all, start to design the skin of the fuselage.

About the Do-24T colors:
Some old plastic models ask for dark green/ medium dark green as the upper surface colors, while the more recent ones ask for a more grayed colors. You can see it comparing the Humbrol with the Farbtone charts. Part of this problem is that nobody cared about the real tone of a plane until a few years ago, and part is due to the damage of the original colors (and pictures) by weathering. In this model, I'll be using the humbrol colors because they changed theirs original H66/H116 to the more recent H243/H244 colors.

Be aware that a smaller model will look more realistic if the colours are desaturated slightly - this replicates looking at a real object from a distance.

That is very true. Before printing I always have to make model "lighter" in colors by quite a bit in photoshop. That brings out the details that would normally disappear within dark colors, makes models far more realistic since great most of them spend their entire existence in the sun and with some printing machines it makes for much more uniform colors.
