Screatch building the Vampire FB 9

Hello all, starting a new scratch build model – De Haviland Vampire FB9. Chose to build it in the colors of RAF 213 Squadron located at Deversoir Egypt in 1954. Profile taken from Wings Palette.

Model design is based on my previous Vampire trainer. Maine difference are the front fuselage, single cockpit and tail.

Rear fuselage up to the cockpit taken from the trainer version. Front fuselage is challenging with its shape and coloring. Worke in a trail and error, with 5 scrap trails.

Nose build separate to allow inserting the nose gear well, before bonding to the fuselage.

Next are the wings.

Well, I like the colour scheme right from the off. And it is always a useful resource to see the design process being carried out. I think you have a good solution for the nose there with the 'reverse petals' idea.

The wing support frame is done from two beams and two wing profile sections.
Cut out is for the main landing gear wheels.

Main landing gear wheels bonded to the the wing upper skin, wing's trailing edge is bonded, and the wing is inserted over the frame.

Working now on the tail's booms.

It's always a pleasure to see one of your scratch builds take place. I always learn a lot.

This is an intersting aircraft and an eye-catching color scheme,

Don

Might I ask: do you have 3-views which include the cross-sections? And if not, how do you determine the profile of the fuselage and tail booms?

I notice you cut the corners of the square pieces that keep the wing frames at the proper angle. Great idea as it must make them easier to get in there.

Hello Siwi, have a drawing with 3 views and sections of fuselage and booms. Another drawing of the T version includes also wing sections. All of this are from the world bigest libreary - Internet.

I can't do a screatch modeling without fuselage sections.
