DO-24T: The forgotten planes

First, three confesions:

1) I allways loved the Do-24T, and I always wanted to assemble the spanish metalized SAR version.

2) Except my Dc-9, all my models have been "first timers", meaning they have never been done in paper before.

3) Seaplanes, for me, it's a running joke. My favourite planes are fighters and bombers.

So, while my beta-testers are assembling the Saro London, I'm starting to design my Do-24T with all the "forgotten versions" that so far nobody has done.

As you can see, I have selected nine versions, with and without armament. As always, there will be 1/33, 1/72 and 1/100 options, and some combos, like both spanish SARs, or both french versions. (or maybe a He-115/Do-24T combo)

A very fine airframe imo, I know you will make a good job of them.

You mean your next project won't be a 1/16 scale Saunders-Roe Princess?

I watched a video of a Do-24 that had been modernised with turboprop engines and other features. Handsome aircraft.

The Dornier Do-24ATT. After an encounter with a sumerged log (See Seaplane Performs Spin Upon Water Landing - YouTube ) the plane is actually awaiting to be rebuild.

The armchair experts decided that the landing spin was made by the pilot and that is was not an accident, even after the crew and Dornier published pictures of the damage.

The ATT hull is the last Do-24T build, with new wings and engines. They expect to bring this worderfull plane to production again, just the little pesty problem of the funds remain.

Good luck with this one Draco. I'm sure it will be as good as your previous efforts mate.

Thanks yankeekilo, Mike1158, Siwi, Rata, gomidefilho!

I'm thinking where I'm going to place the internal formers. As you can see with 58-2, the plane is going to be very easy to design and assemble, but I want that the gun turrets can rotate, and you must bear it in mind.

The alpha, hand painted model, will probably be 51-7 Virgen del Pilar. Why don't 58-2? There is not aluminium paint for models in Venezuela :-(.

To my eye, the Do.24 was always an attractive 'boat. Same with the Kawanishi H6K 'Mavis'.

One thought I did have when seeing your handpainted prototypes is that you could release a 'white' model for those modellers who want to add a paint scheme themselves. That way the model could either be depicted as a specific aircraft or just to create a certain effect. In the case of the London, I'm going over the entire model with a silver marker pen to create the aluminium.
