F-14 Tomcat Halinski 3-4/2001
Over a year after I purchased the F-14 Tomcat Halinski kit, I embarked on a mission to modify it with my former Navy squadron's paint scheme. My friend made the changes using photoshop in which he converted the VF-1 Wolfpacks' scheme to that of my former squadron, the VF-31 Tomcatters. I started the actual building of the kit a couple of weeks ago so I will begin with a photo of where the build is today. I give credit to all of you who have previously built Halinski kits, I've learned they are not for the faint of heart! This is roughly my 7th papermodel I've built and boy is this a tough one. To make matters more difficult, I shrunk the model from the standard 1:33 scale to 1:48 so it could fit on my shelf. Wish me luck!

Well, I wish you lots of luck sir with this double challenge! I've always wanted to build this model myself but am a bit hesitant as it is a relatively old kit and the one Halinski I ever started that was published in the nineties was not a very good one... Anyway, I will follow your proceedings with great interest. Good luck, you're off to a good start already!!

Cockpit complete. I added ejection handles to the seats for a bit more detail.

Nic work! Succes with attaching the cockpit section to the fuselage, and in between the wings. That really looks like a critical connection, and difficult to make.

Thanks Erik. I already tried dry fitting the cockpit to the fuselage and I see a minor mismatch but I'll make it work. Changing the scale from 1:33 to 1:48 has presented some alignment issues but I have been able to make adjustments along the way. This weekend I will be working on the part I dread the most...the canopy

I moved on to the part of the model that I hate the most, the canopy. I made two attempts so far and dry fitted the best of the two. Not the best but I think it will work.

That looks like an excellent canopy to me! Vacuuming takes a bit of practice and making the mold is a lot of work, but the end result is always rewarding .
