Navy N3N Murph's, yellow peril 1/48

Hello everybody, I bought this model when I saw it on Aaron's site, but you know other things put it on the back burner. It moved to the top of the list quickly when I found out that Addison Pemberton was building one here in Spokane. I went over to check it out, and the fuse is pretty much done, wings not covered yet and I didn't see the float. We were wheeling it around for primer and paint, really cool. Here are some early pictures of the progress, I made it in 1/48 if my math was right, and it fits right in with some of my floatplanes.
I took off the top of the cockpit to get some simple interior, very simple, but enough for this scale I thought. The engine in a Wright, and the plane was fitted with various versions, the common one having the exhaust manifold facing forward, not the pushrods. Aaron did include pretty much this engine I changed some minor things for fun.
I did redraw the top wing, I had just seen the wing uncovered and there are alot of ribs, interestingly differing from the Stearman alot in all aspects despite the resemblance to the more common trainer. The wing ribs are all aluminum, and quite a thin wing compared to the Stearman, and it has top wing ailerons. I think the Stearman top wing in shape is a better design but those were early days. The N3N being a more durable aircraft for later restoration with so much metal structure (rather than the wood wings of the Stearman).

Here are the pictures of the model now, I see I forgot a couple things, but pretty much completed. Aaron included a cool beaching cart that is perfect, and the whole model was fun. Used monofilament for the rigging which is still my favorite method of those I've tried.

Thank you Mike this was certainly a colorful era prior to WWII, makes for pretty models...
Good to hear that Don, I was hoping you would like this one, I have grander plans to make a series of 1/48 floatplanes of the era, but maybe more plans than I will accomplish! (as per usual ha)
