Looking forward to seeing the model available.
One summer I was able to spend on a B-58 base (ROTC summer camp). While there we were given a presentation about the escape pods and the story about one bird getting broken a year or two earlier. It seems they had an alert (the Russians are coming....) to launch aircraft. When the first several aircraft took off, they melted the snow around the runway. The water froze, causing one B-58 to skid and its landing gear to come apart. Then the plane cought on fire. The two back seat crew members climed out and ran down the wing to escape. The pilot chose to eject and the parachute did not deploy untill the pod was almost on the ground. Since the crew had been allowed to launch ready aircraft without the crew harness (seat belts) fastened, the pilot did not survive. The fire melted the nuclier weapons but nothing was exploded. The presentation caused us to be cautious and careful whenever we were given something to do. It seems the military is good at having exciting moments to offset hours of boordum. bbo neill |

The "mythical" camouflaged B-58 has been reported but never confirmed. I have a T.O. showing the proposed scheme. Jay Miller in his book on the subject debunked the rumor that such a plane actually existed but only to stir the debate. His motive was intended as a challenge to someone who might have photographed the airplane.
Unlike the B-58, AGM 77s (?), the venerable Hound Dog missile, was photographed in its camouflage scheme.

To all,
The Hustler is moving right along. There are not alot of compound curves to deal with (a very good thing). I converted the compound curved shapes into straight-element surfaces that can be unrolled in Pepakura. Here are 5 pictures that show how the model will be broken up. In most cases, the joint lines coincide with actual panel breaks in the real aircraft. BTW, Billy will be beta-building the model as we go. I may be adding a few pics here and there as well. Ken |

Ken, I apologize for changing the subject a little, but when/if you get time, how about a B-47 Stratojet? My all-time favorite American aircraft. Nice video on Youtube:

I've already got mine ordered...I think there is still time to get in on his advance purchase price break. Can't wait for it to show up in my mailbox.

Ken, doing such a beautiful job! But, hey, think we're coming to expect it!
The B-58 is such a fine looking aircraft. I like modern aircraft, so many have that "sci-fi" look to them, but it's a look of "cool" not function. When/if you see a B-58 coming, you know it's not coming to chew gum, it's there to kick some a**. A "must purchase" to go along with the X-15. |
