1/33 Heinkel He-111 | KG 53, Battle of Britain/Bombing of London 1940

I came back from vacation and after a few days I decided to start a new model - an aircraft model.
Heinkel He-111, from GPM nr 180. This particular plane belongs to the Kampfgeschwader 53 (KG 53) "Legion Condor" unit and it represents the Battle of Britain/Bombing of London period, 1940.

I started my work yesterday, so for obvious reasons, I can't show too much in this very first post. However, in the forthcoming updates, there will be more photos and more information about the building process. Also, I'll try to explain some of my ideas and techniques that can be applied to this kit. This Heinkel won't be an easy one, that's for sure...

Looks like a good start. I look forward to seeing this model of a historic airplane take shape.

The 111 is still one of my favourite bombers. I fell in love with the design watching the Battle of Britain movie as a kid (the one with Michael Caine)

I have it as a nickname and as a registered trademark (Heinkel Models). It is the first kit (Italeri) I bought as a young man.
It was love at first sight.

The development of the He-111 is progressing slowly.
The first segments are ready. Before gluing them together, you must first make their interior.

First elements of the glazing are finished as well. I used a thin, flexible film/plastic from a transparent document folder. To glue this to paper elements, I recommend Butapren (something like Shoe Goo).

Nice work on the glazing. There are a lot of small (and close together) windows to cut out. Well done.

The work on He-111 continues.
First of all, I always make the individual elements first, if possible with all their details. Then I put the finished elements together. I also don’t follow instructions; instead I use my intuition. Instructions just don’t always show the best, easiest way.
Before gluing the individual parts together, I dry-fit them several times.

As I expected, the model is really challenging and will certainly take some time.

Great skills Zenon. Your time and effort are definitely reflected in the high quality models that you build.
