Thank you Siwi!, the 727 with aluminunm sections was put together by Roberto Ladron d'Guebara, he used paint to simulate metal

The company AEROTAXI S.A. was founded on August 16, 1948 at the initiative of the AVIANCA management group and was established as a subsidiary, in order to provide air service to the most remote communities of the Eastern Plains, the Savannahs of Bolívar and the Valle del Cauca. Its objective was to incorporate into AVIANCA's national air network the aforementioned regions and centers of growing development, which did not have airfields or landing strips that were safe enough for the operation of DC-3 planes and the like. The two Noorduyn Norseman. (One of them, the HK-710 crashed on December 6 in Caldas), they were replaced by a fleet of 14 de Havilland Canada Beaver. These Canadian single-engines were the most suitable of all models on the market and had been designed at the end of World War II for military logistics transport or a total of 7 passengers and small amounts of parcels and mail.

I commend your very thorough exploration of SCADTA-Avianca history.

We have a slight family connection: in 1971, my wife and children flew from San Francisco to Seoul, Korea, via an Avianca flight (I believe it was a Boeing 720). It was a wonderful and memorable experience. The crew were very friendly and helpful, the flight was comfortable, and the food was delicious.

1950 Catalina PBY-5A.
"That year Avianca had its Catalinas based in Medellin, from where they covered mostly river routes. That plane also flew to Barranquilla from Medellin as a complementary service to the DC-3, only unlike the Douglas, it turned around the Magdalena River, making stops in Nare, Puerto Berrío, Barrancabermeja, Puerto Wilches, Simití, Gamarra, El Banco, Ayacucho, Magangué, Plato and finally Barranquilla. One day during its arrival in Magangué, the seaplane encountered very heavy rain, which As if that were not enough, it naturally made the river flow increase, bringing with it large fences downriver that made it impossible to land, so the plane headed for Corozal, since it also had the capacity to land on land, thus alternating its stopover and becoming the only time that a Catalina was in Corozal, service that the company did in DC-3 and C-47."
During World War II, these aircraft served Avianca in mixed passenger and cargo service in the Amazon, Choco and the Pacific Coast.

Aerovías Ramales Colombianas was founded on October 30, 1939 under the leadership of Captain Hans Hoffmann, Captain Fritz Herzhauser and a group of German technicians. Hans Hoffmann was a German aviator and sailor, who had come to Colombia hired by SCADTA. He had married the daughter of the Minister of War, José Domingo Arango. It was precisely his father-in-law who provided him with the money to start the operations of a new aviation company. With an operational base in the city of Villavicencio, ARCO initially acquired a Beechcraft Model 17, with registration C-48. SCADTA having merged with SACO in 1940 to create AVIANCA, all German personnel had been forced to withdraw from commercial aviation and were replaced by North American and Colombian personnel, under the supervision of Pan American Airways. To prevent any attempt to reorganize the German Pilots and Technicians, the Colombian government sponsored the purchase by Avianca of ARCO's assets. The final negotiation was signed on April 26, 1941
ARCO operated Beechcraft Staggerwing 17, Ford 8-AT and Ford Trimotor

Herr Hans Hoffmann also founded in 1959 a company called HANSA with a beautiful hotel in San Andrés island called Hansa Club Villas. He started operations in 1959 with a beautiful yellow and white PBY-6a Catalina. I know this because I have a friend of mine who flew to San Andrés island in December 1959 in this Catalina and piloted by Herr Hoffman.. The Catalina was beautifully restored with a very nice interior. The flight took 6 hours. three to Barranquilla and three more to San Andrés. The Catalina is very slow aircraft . What happened afterwards to this aircraft, I don't know. v

A great collection of models, and a nice batch of history lessons there. Thanks for your posts.
A real shame Avianca is no longer Colombian, as it had a great past and is linked to the development of the country during most of its history.
