In the 1950s, Avianca introduced the, by then, very modern Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation. Avianca operated four Super Constellation L-1049-G, registrations: HK-175-176-177-184. The 177 crashed. The 184 was equipped with additional fuel tanks at the ends of the wings.
Super Constellations were withdrawn from service in February 1969 and subsequently scrapped.
