Red face Gloster Meteor F8-Yoav design. Take 1

I have built many of Yoav's designs of Israeli AF jets in 1/30 scale. I am yet to build the F-15, F-16 of his. But, for now I decided to build his Meteor F8 since I finished a Meteor F1 and have another Meteor F3 ready to be built.

You can get some of his models on our forum in the download sections (used to be on the DGA website, but no longer).

however.........

I ran out of my favorite Japanese card stock and found out it is no longer available in the USA, so a friend in Japan will send me a few packs.

in the meantime, I ordered on Amazon another cardstock that looked good.

I printed the model on that new paper and all looked great. Crisp colors and the paper felt good in my hand.

I then went on a long 2 month road trip and decided as in my past hotel builds to build it on the road. So far so good.

but......

As soon as I started rounding the fuselage sections, the paper refused to cooperate and instead of smooth rounding, it came out wrinkled and rough looking.

This will not do for a good model and I decided that for my road trip, I will further build this model to keep me busy ( no edge coloring either ). However, I will re print it on my favorite paper and build it again.

So this is really not a build thread, but more of an informative thread that not all card stock is suitable for model building ( especially rounded sections ).

This build will be used to assist in the build of the better paper version as well as figuring out how to add the landing gear bays in the wings to include a modification to the wing stub spars which currently penetrate the location of the gears (none of Yoav's models have a landing gear)

Here is the model as far as I will build it.

Hope to start building a new one soon.

Well done for take 1, Isaac. It's still a great looking model.

The new printer does a great job with the colours.

actually, this is my old Epson 630 printer. It's over 10 years old. I wanted to replace it because of the cost of the ink cartridges, but the prints are still great. So I will continue for a bit longer.

Hope you'll be able to start again soon Isaac, at least you've done a dry-run and usually the second build will benefit from the first one, with all its lessons learned. It would be great to have the Meteor with a landing gear.

Cheers,
Erik

That was my intention when I built this initial model. I needed to understand how to modify it. Specifically, the placement of inner new wing spars and support that would not penetrate the landing gear bay on the inner wing section.

It was interesting to read of your plan for this project, your adventure with a new paper, and the tribulations that ensued. Even with the wrinkling, the model looks good. I look forward to seeing the next build on more suitable paper.
