E-2C Hawkeye 1/72 scale

I took a break from the F-14 model I'm currently building and sidestepped into this 1/72 scale model of the Grumman E-2C Hawkeye. This is a free model by a Japanese designer on Eastern's Toy-Box website. I modified the livery and roundels by photoshopping it with that of US Navy squadron VAW-122 insignia. The model is a surprisingly good replica considering how small it is and all the sections come together really well. To make it a better looking model, I cut out the paper windshields and replaced it with clear plastic sheet. I have already started the build and completed the fuselage sections and wing mate. More to come.

Adding in clear plastic windows makes a big difference to the realism of a model, even if we just put some dark coloured paper behind and don't make an interior, or it would be too small/dark to see. Looking forwards to seeing this progress.

Yes absolutely, adding clear plastic makes a big difference to the overall look. In this case, I created a black "box" inside the cockpit area of the model to darken the inside.

Engine cowlings, props and horizontal/vertical tail structure are complete. The main landing gear on the E-2 Hawkeye retracts into the engine cowl assembly as you can see from the gear doors in the open position. I've decided to make the model with landing gear installed. That may be what I attack next

Finished the landing gear. Due to the small size, the only improvements I made to it is add scissors to the strut as well as an aluminum foil band for the oleo struts
