Sopwith Camel by Maly Modelarz in 1/33rd

All,

I got his one from an estate sale (thanks, Greg!) and it's the first time I've built from this manufacturer. The textures are very nice with subtle shading and clean lines. You can make either Roy Brown's or Mellersh's. To be different...and I like the roundels on the fuselage...I'll be making the latter. I also don't really like the red and black checkers on the stab so I'm going to modify that a bit. So it will be my 209th Squadron Camel!

So far I've only got the tail parts cut out, the skeletons balsa-backed and I'll start gluing soon.

My shelf needs some allies on it! They are currently out numbered...

Dan

After a couple of hours, got the tails and control horns finished. The horns are actually nice in that they go through the whole part rather than just gluing to the surface. Alignment is much easier!

More soon...Dan

Don't remember designer for this one. If Pawel Mistewicz, it should be a good experience.

I'll be watching.

I did not know that Pawel had any of his designs published by MM. I'm a huge fan of his KK work, and I have the KK Camel in my stash, though I wish it were in RAF markings rather than Polish. I'm going to be watching this build with interest, because I, too, have never built a MM kit, but I have been intrigued by some of their more recent offerings.

So I looked and yes Pawel did this MM design. Since he has been publishing the same designs with different graphics in the KK line, odds are you'll get tons of reference from Dan's build.

Sopwith Camel - everyone's favorite! Good color scheme on this one (in my opinion).

Looks like another Dan Smith masterpiece in the making.

I wish I could see it on Saturday, but will be watching Fedora.

Good luck with the rest of the build.

Don

Good start Dan! Indeed Pawel's designs for KK are very good, and he didn't only design WWI aircraft. Still have the KK Hawker Hurricane and Brewster Buffalo on the way too long to do list, but completed the F104G already a few years ago.

Cheers,
Erik

Thanks, Everybody. I do find that I enjoy models so much, that I keep building them without let up. I need psychiatric evaluation!

Got the main cockpit tub done. I need to make my own seat belts as the ones in the kit look more WWII vintage. I think I'll add a couple more bits in there but it all went together really well. I'm pleased. More fuselage soon!
