Just looked at the plan! Great, Don. Walnut scale was just about my plan too. Won't need to reinvent the wheel now.

A bit more. Front end and the engine finished and installed. Next will be the cowling!
By the way...that slot that looks odd is actually supposed to be there. Who knew? Dan |

This area is easily much more detailed and accurate compared to the Fly Model version. Those little squares are vents that the Fly Model had marked to show where to cut them and fold them out, so I did that on mind. Yours doesn't need it because it all looks better.

Thanks for the clarification, Greg. It is looking pretty good now.
I got the cowling on and it's neat but it took some head-scratching to assemble it. It's all butt joints which don't scare me anymore after building the Jimmy Carter and it's plenty strong. The odd part...but in retrospect sort of genius...was that the typical strips that make up such a cowling seemed way too big. After lots of thinking, it turns out that you crease along a print line and then fold/glue that part back against itself and this makes the inside of the cowling the correct color. I just wasn't understanding the geometry but once I figured it out, it was a cool idea. As usual with this kit, the instructions (at least the picture instructions) leave a lot to be desired but after much consternation and false starts, everything fits very, very well. I'm pretty pleased. Really looking like a Karas with the front end almost done. More soon...Dan |

Looks great with the cowling on. I hope to see it in person at the Zoom session in a couple of hours.

Thanks for the nice comment, Don. Sadly...you'll need to wait until the next one. I have a school/work thing I need to get to. And I was looking forward to our meeting...
See you later, Dan |

Sneaking up on the wheel pants. I modified the tire and wheel/oleo strut ala Marek with simple wire plugged into the balsa tire. Not planning on making them rotate so this is simple and strong.
Steady as she goes. I think the wheel pants will make or break this model. Oh yeah...then there's the canopy too! Ok. There are still multiple things that can break this one. One thing at a time! Dan |

Your wheels are MUCH better than mine. You are kicking butt and taking names....

Thanks, Greg!! The wheel pants are...interesting. But if you take your time, they fit like a jigsaw puzzle. Fit is dang nice if you just glue little bits at a time. I'll try some burnishing but even without, it's acceptable to my eye.
One down, one to go...Dan P.S. Greg: And THANKS for the model. I'm having a lot of fun with it. |

Pants are on. Some more fairings to go but the basic sit is there. Tail skid will help too. Still need to make the lights as well.
They went better than expected. Dan |
