Worked on the canopy mold and made the exhausts out of aluminum tubing. They just look better than I could roll the supplied paper. I also added the venturi on the left side.
Maybe I'll get the canopy formed and framed tomorrow. Fingers crossed! Dan |

Tubing for the exhaust: definitely the way to go.
So far so good on the canopy mold. Getting closer! Greg

Thanks, Greg. I did get one mold formed but I'm going to try one more and see if I can make it a bit smoother. I also got the little glass covers over the landing gear lights. They turned out darn good.
More tomorrow...I hope. Dan |

At last...success!
At least I'll call it a win. I also got the gun site in place and the little fuselage hand holds on the left side. Really all that's left is a bit of detail painting, weathering and the rear gun attachment! Dan |

Excellent work, Dan. The canopy turned out great and small final details are a true bonus to the model.
Vacuuming a canopy is an art by itself and quite labor-intensive. I don't like the work involved but up so far it has always been rewarding and regular practice makes the master . Looking forward to the end result! Cheers, Erik |

Excellent canopy! All and all this has been a very enjoyable build to follow. At first glimpse the plane looked to me as an 'ugly duckling' but along the way it has developed (you built into it) a certain 'je ne sais quoi', a distinctive charm one could say. Thanks for the ride so far.

Beautiful work, Dan!
I agree, Tappi. The more I look at this airplane, the more I like its appearance. Don |

Thank you very much, Erik, Greg, Don, Tappi and Ray! It's been a fun struggle and the reward is tonight!
Got my wing tip lights, guns and sites added and then I did a little airbrushing to vary texture, mute the bright markings a bit and add things like exhaust stains and airfield schmutz...and used a silver pencil to put some subtle chipping in a few places. I figure these things didn't last long enough to get really ratty! It's all done and now I want to make a Stuka and a Sonja or Val and maybe some sort of a Northrup contemporary. I guess Erik's Dauntless if pretty close! It's cool to see how contemporary designers tackled the same problems. Thanks for coming along for the ride and thanks again to Greg for sending me this kit unsolicited. Dan "already thinking about the next model" Smith |
