PZL-23B "Karas" Maly Modelarz 1/33rd Scale
All,
Greg Perry gave me this guy a while ago since I've always liked the machine and now I want to start it! After finishing the lovely Camel, I've been warned that this kit will ruin the honeymoon. So, I decided to start with something that I could figure out first. Some of the directions are pretty sketchy. I started with the wing outer panel inner structure which seemed to make sense after some head scratching and trial fitting. So far, fit is excellent and it's pretty darn ingenious. It gives a really solid base for the eventual skins (unlike the multiple spar sections on the Camel). Won't be any warping or dips in the covering. Maybe my 1/32nd balsa helps but so far, so good. Treading lightly and whistling past the Maly Modelarz gods...Dan |

YES! Good luck on this one!
I said I was going to avoid aircraft for awhile after the B-29, but now I'm thinking of building the old Fly Model Karas PZL-23B in tandem with your build.... Greg

There is a newer print of the Fly model of the Karas. And as a bonus, you get the Polish version and the Romanian one as well. The laser cut frames are also included.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I built the original Fly model back in 2004, ![]() but I would like to build both newer printed ones again sometimes in the future. I don't know if the Maly version is better or more accurate, but I am sure both are great builds. I see you are building it like a balsa model. maybe a conversion to radio control? Good luck with you build. Everyone loves a good fish ( Karas ) ![]() Isaac

Well, this answers the question I just posted in your Camel thread.
Great-looking airplane, and it looks like you have the build well under way. The wings look good. I look forward to watching you surmount any uncoming challenges. Best, Don |

A mini group build sounds like fun, Greg. This will get us ready for the Kursk.
![]() That model looks great, Isaac. If mine ends up that good, I'll call it a win. Don...I think I'll likely need some of your history wisdom when things go south. I appreciate the words and you checking this thread out. More soon, folks...Dan |

Dan - I don't know from Polish aviation history, but the Karaś was a good looking airplane, Isaac's version is a beauty, and I look forward to seeing Greg's. A karass of Karaśes? Don

Hi Don...
Carp EVERYWHERE! This is going to be fun. I got a few more things done. Just going along nice and slow. I find that you need to be really careful about putting things together and missing parts you should have added and then it's too late. For example, I need to add my big camera and some observer seat stuff before I put on some top pieces to the cockpit. Like Greg, I found an error in the printing. You can see that there are supposed to be cut-outs but they didn't match between the sides of the bulkhead. On a positive note, all the other parts/cuts were dang close. In fact, the fit on this has been pretty much Halinski-like. Just waiting for the impending disaster... Slow and steady with (hopefully) minimum errors! Dan |

Here's a bit more bits inside. The camera, a seat...needs some foot rests, multiple touch-ups with paint and some cable for what I assume are radios but it's looking pretty busy and cool so far.
