Isaac. Despite all of the challenges that this kit is throwing at you, you're doing a great job.

You are getting it. It is no longer a hobby, rather a challenge and test of wills.

I would not have built it, but really wanted a series of meteors to build. There are lots of lessons learned here. At the end, I love a challenge and as predicted, this one will not be easy.

If someone wants to re engineer and repaint it, it could be OK. Or better yet, a brand new design like Yoav's Meteor F8.

More to come.

Exclamation Inner wing

The kit shows the inner wing to consist of the part where the nacelle fits as well as a small outer strip. If you do it their way, you will be in a mess of trouble.

My method is to remove most of the blanked area for the engine nacelle, leave small attached tabs to butt fit to the nacelle and to replace all of the inner ribs and structure. Just eliminate it all.

The ribs were traced over balsa wood and cut ( approx. 2 mm thick ). In addition, a whole new landing gear bay is cut and placed. All is glued in placed over the lower wing skin

for some reason, a crease developed over the leading edge. Oh well, no prize for me there.

trim the blanked nacelle outline

fold over and glue the upper wing skin.

Exclamation Inner wings attached

Now it is time to glue the inner wing directly to the fuselage. There is no inner structure or wing spars at all. Just butt joined.

I took the opportunity to dirty the landing gear bay a bit using dark grey pen and swabbing it with a cotton stick. Why not.

here is the right inner wing glued on.

Now comes the "secret sauce" to support the wings. I used a metal music wire from my radio control stash and drilled it directly thru the balsa wood ribs all the way to the other wing. It will be super strong. Another metal rod will be inserted at the leading edge later when the engine nacelle is attached.

Hello Isaac,

You are doing great job with this old school model!
I have got it in my stash but I don't think I could cope with it as good as you

I know it is a different type, but in a future if you need some photos, dimensions, etc. for F8 version I can possibly help you as there is one in Liverpool Speke old terminal.

Good luck with your model!

This old model is really tricky and has lots of issues.

As for the F8 version, I built an excellent one designed by Yoav.

But sure, please share any photos of it. I would love to see them.

I would like to see a model modification to a trainer F7 and or one of the night fighters NF13 or NF14.

Thank you

Isaac

Hello Isaac,

Meteor is on my 'to do' list for sure.
The T.7 / NF.11 canopy looks quite easy to design, so I could possibly design a double seater's canopy for you 'in between my projects'.
Than you would have to fit a 'F3' tail to the 'F8' fuselage.

Please let me know if this is any help to you.

kind regards

Cybermac

Yes!!!!!!!!!

If you decide to design a long framed canopy for the T7 and NF11/13 version ( as well as the RADOM nose ), then I think that would be a way to go.

The trainer will use the F8 fuselage and the F3 tail, yes.

The night fighter I think is all F8 version plus a long nose and a two seater canopy.

The trainer can be all metallic color. The night fighter will need some camo paint.

So why not, that would be a nice addition to the Meteor fleet.

Thanks

Isaac
