More 1/200 scale

Hi, thought I would share some pictures of some new 1/200 scale additions (addictions?) to my collection in this scale. More will show up as I get to them. These first few are the old Model-craft ones from 75 years ago. There are definitely better patterns out there.

First up I wanted to change the engine nacells of the Model-craft Mosquito and the nose. Nothing's wrong with it as I scanned through the wikipedia photos. The real plane did go through several changes while in service with the RAF. My P47 has AirDave's free ordinance, not really sure if I scaled them right.

Thank you for sharing. They lock really nice. Those where draft by hand and probably very limited info from pictures and no internet, digital cameras, laser printers, direct access to plans. I think they did a very good job.

Thanks for taking a look. Here's some USAAF to go along with the older posts of my "Flying Fortress", "Privateer", "Liberator","Catalina", "P-61" & "B-25". Two adversaries for now.

I made a LED strip light, and placed it at the back of the display area pointing downwards. But the Cannon S400 auto flash gets over ridden, so the sensor detects sufficient light. But my background is actually blue. I need to watch out for the fold line as in the first 3 shots, I could get something bigger, but this one was a freebie.

Yes, they do. I like the old Maly Modelarz version of the P-40 better. And there are much better ones out there. I did a Fiddler's Green P-40 and set the wingspan to the size of an old Zylmex or Zee Toys pot metal one. Which I thought was 1/144th scale. The toy, and Paper models I sized/scaled in photo shop then assembled are bigger than 1/144th.

I usually like to use Auto CAD and draw out 1" and divide that line into what scale I want. 1/32, 1/48, 1/72, 1/100, 1/200. Find 12" or 1' and go from there. But I do make mistakes. I believe the Me Bf 110 is too small, scaling error on my part. I will print a new one soon and try again.

Bases are fun 3/4"W x 2"L bond paper rolled tight, stuck in a 2-1/2" diameter foam circle cut from washed market meat tray.

On to new pictures. Never did He 111 in any medium till now. Shrunken from the old German ID paper models. A FG 190 escort. Seams at wing bottom didn't link up well.

Neat little models and the stands are novel too!
Sometimes the 'serious' nature of scale modelling gets a bit detrimental to the hobby. Putting the fun back into it by doing simpler, smaller scale stuff every now and then keeps the interest going.

In the past 3 weeks I reprinted the Me-110 in the correct scale. And then a flying hot rod the P-38 Lighting. Did the same thing as the first Me-110. The P-38 was all in the top left corner of the letter sized page. I checked my drawing in CAD and found that I mistakenly read my wingspan notation I drew it at 32' instead of 52' so I had to re-scale it to correct wingspan and re-printed to what you see here. I'm not sure if I'll make the small one it looks like it is 1/270th.

My brother always liked the B-25. Spent many weekends with him watching the old Spencer Tracy and Van Johnson movie "Thirty Seconds over Tokyo". I read John Toland's book about his experiences in the raid, which the movie is based.

Our dad always liked the P-38 Lighting. Even though he was a B-24 bombardier, he considered it the fastest airplane of the time in 1943. But the F4U Corsair eventually surpassed the Lighting by the end of WWII.

Speaking of B-25s in movies, this take-off sequence from Catch-22 is a clip I've watched dozens of times.

With those stands and in this scale these models look ripe for some kind of tabletop game. If there isn't one devised already, some kind of bombing mission scenario could be created using chance to decide fighter interception with the models moved over a map board.
