You are definitely right, there are many airplanes that do not have paper models or there is only one paper model of that airplane, so I feel that the best thing is to focus on making models of those unknown airplanes or those with few models.

That benefits both the people who assemble and the people who make recolors.

For example, it seems strange to me that there are no good models of the Dornier-328 and -228

As I have noted before there are some quite well-known types such as He-111 and Do-17 that can't seem to be found on Ecards. This might be because Bruno designed them but they never appeared after one of the many server issues Ecards had over the years, but that's still strange because surely many people want to build these famous types?

I agree with Tex's philosophy completely as well: there are some subjects we already have a highly detailed model and also a good simple model available and unless you can make some worthwhile innovation like even greater realism or photorealistic textures there is simply no reason to go and design another. I don't think agressive commercialism is particularly high on any designer's agenda but it would be great to see more people just follow their heart and make rare or underappreciated subjects. This is exactly what I am doing with the British trains - these are models I want on my shelf and like the look and colours of, and if I sell a few to others that's a nice bonus. More vintage cars would be good to see as well, old Rolls Royce or Mercedes from 1910-1920 for example.

It seems to me with all due respect that you haven't checked the fabolous GELI card models. Both the He-111 and the DO-215 are made by this printer, the pioneer in 1/33 scale card model aircraft.. Not exactly the DO17 but both are very similar. Perhaps the Geli's DO-215 can be converted to DO17. Check photos of actual Geli models downloaded from the web page that illustrates every Geli model printed and available today. Geli.htm

I am well aware of the existance of Geli models and have followed several build diaries of them here. My point, however, is that these aircraft types are not at the time of writing to be found for download as smaller scale kits on Ecards. Geli I believe are only distributed as physical kits in 1:33 scale.
