I think Mid America Flight Museum in Mt Pleasant Texas has a flyable Duck...

Thank you Ryan! That is the duck here, I should have looked that up it's been awhile, and it is a special bird being a J2F-3, nearly all the other existing aircraft are J2f-4 as so many more were produced.

The engine, it's pretty easy to build but I think looks ok.

This is where the model is at present, hull attached to fuse, engine made, and working on the gear

Building and putting on the lower wings. This is how I usually do wings anyway so to get the trailing edge glued straight so maybe of some use to some? Thin paper glue strips (typing paper)

Excellent work Glen.
You are a master with birds . . . be they feathered, or mechanical.

This is basically my method for wings as well, although I insert a pre-shaped and chamfered wedge of card at the tips rather than a ring of tabs. It's also the reason for using 160gsm paper since I can tack the very edges without worrying about glue causing distortion. However I don't quite understand the reason for cutting off the wing tips, unless it allows you to shape the compound curve better by removing tiny wedges at the cut line?

On the real thing, were the wings metal or fabric?

HA thank you Mike! My paper modeling all started with the man made variety,
but my first love has always been birds.

It makes a big difference to separate the tips, so can taper them without making the card try to bend 2 ways (it doesn't really do that).
The wingtips can be done however one likes, I bend the edges down generally using this method, shows up very well in larger scales this way and edge glue the tips easier than it sounds.

The canopy next to see how it would work, I wanted a clear one since need thin frame darkened the back of the frame with sharpie, cut out the panes I also separated the front and back. The center is a bent piece of clear packaging plastic I heated it up with a heat gun to soften and bent over a cylindrical rod.
Glued on the center part cut out, the glued the end part to the same half cylinder and cut them out for the ends.
