The Piper Cub in its J5 Cub Cruiser HE-1 then AE-1 variant (US Navy ambulance plane).
Note the position of the single stretcher.
Fiddlersgreen model.

Please note that these planes will be on display at the La Destrousse exhibition near Aubagne (13), France, on Saturday and Sunday May 18 and 19. See you there!

Amazing work Jan with all these gems. The open stretcher bay really adds!

On a side note, (and just personal speculation here) the designers of the full size AE-1 variant obviously knew their stuff, but the location of the weight of a patient and stretcher so far back in the fuselage of a Cub must have played havoc with the CG.

Yet another fantastic model to add to this collection. Every time I open this thread, it becomes more fun and interesting.

Thank you for your comments!

So, today and tomorrow, La Destrousse in the Bouches du Rhône region of France hosts the last major gathering of Pipers and other L-birds before their departure for Normandy.

Wow! What a display. If I was able to attend that event I would be spending so much time at that table I'd probably be accused of loitering!

Wonderful display. I think I see a few of the jeeps in there also. Thank you for your dedication to the event.

If any of the big boys at the event aren't represented in cardstock, maybe some 80th Anniversary repaint editions might be possible. Just thinking.

Regards,
John
