Cool LA-15 early jet repaint by Gary

This thread is sort of a revisit of a model I built back in 2011 of the late 1940's Soviet jet fighter by the Yakovlev design bureau.

The original model I built was printed in a silver color on what was a soft type of card paper. It was an OK design, but sensitive to build.

Here are some pics of that original:

And a link to my original build
Lavochkin LA-15 Fantail - Hobby Model Nr. 54 in 1/33 scale

by the way, the Chinese site "Alice" copied my old finished photos above and placed on their own web site back then...... I did not get any compensation either......

More soon.

Cool Background of the plane

here is a brief set of visuals that show the Soviet first generation jet fighters based on German WW2 technology.

The Lavochkin 15 as well as the Yakovlev 30 and Mig-15 fighter designs all have an external resemblance to the German Focke Wulf TA-183 Huckebein jet design which was never built.

All had a high tail, swept back wings with an engine buried mid section having intake at the nose.

Mig-15

This design remained in production thru the last Mig-17 which was an improved Mig-15.

Cool The repaint

I gave away many of my models over the years including the original La-15. But I really wanted to build it again in a newly rendered version. Gary ( aka MacSongLi ) and I have been collaborating on many model repaints for many years. This one was not overly complex. Gary selected a red colored forward fuselage scheme that was used in many of the old Soviet fly bys.

The scheme:

Many thanks again to Gary.

Exclamation The fuselage sections

This should be one of the easiest fuselages to build. All conical and circular sections.

here they are:

You're off to a great start. I do love the lines and the high wing design of the La-15 more than the design of the MiG-15.

It's always a pleasure to collaborate with you on projects, especially bringing these old hand drawn kits back to life. Looking forward to many more in the future.

Exclamation Rear fuselage

The back end is simple and easy to assemble. The exhaust duct is barely visible.

The parts were rendered instead of the original that was printed on soft silver .

Thanks for the historical information and images, Isaac. I always learn a lot from your threads.

I notice that you glue the joining strips onto the fuselage sections flat on the work bench and then roll them.

That certainly saves time and effort. I will give it a try. I always thought that the laminated paper would buckle when I roll in the curve and so have always glued the joiners to the fuselage section after rolling both.

I will try your methodology.

As far as the joining strips, I always did it this way. Not sure you can attach them properly when the part is rounded?

At this point, no inlet splitter or nose gear bay.
