DGA Stampe-Vertongen SV-4C CF-ZXW in 1/72

This is one of my next DGA competition builds, but I felt it deserved its own build thread. When I was looking through the list, I was searching for pictures since I wasn't familiar with a lot of the planes, and I came across these pictures of the exact plane this is a model of, and fell in love with it. It's a gorgeous plane:

It may take me a bit longer to build this one than the other competition builds, but I want to give it a bit of extra attention. I may even run rigging on her. Building these moderate models (as compared to say FG planes) is giving me good practice. I may find myself trying an advanced kit sooner than I thought. Anyway, here's today's progress:

First up was the cockpit and one-piece fuselage. My first attempt got twisted up some how so this is my second shot. It also took a while to figure out how the instrument panels sat - I ended up curving them outwards, though they cover some of the cockpit details.

Next I installed the lower wing which for the first time ever lined up exactly with the cutout on the bottom of the fuselage.

Added the forward fuselage and engine cowling, and horizontal tailplane:

And finally got the upper wing cut and edged, ready for assembly with brighter AM eyes tomorrow.

Good night all!

Guido will appreciate your work! You are doing a great job on this one and all the others you have completed.

Our (DGA) models are designed for ease of build, but they are also designed to be a scale models.......... unforunately FG models are not all scale models.

I'll be sure he peeks in on your build.

Well folks, I must say I am more than happy to see the great build results of our DGA models all of you have shown us. I was particularly impressed by the very small models built by Jan Kytop.
Of course I do appreciate cmags SV-4 build thread. Looking good so far, so no doubt the rest will be perfect as well.
Keep up the good work !

Guido

Thanks for the comments guys, especially from DGA! These are certainly great little models to build - easy enough to churn out for the competition with good results, but with enough detail that you can spend a little time and make a fantastic model!

Speaking of detail, I've added some of the smaller details, including air inlet, oil reservoir, blister fairing (though I'm not sure what that is), and the windscreens. I couldn't figure out where the oil cooler goes, and the photos of the real plane don't help.

For the windscreens I cut out the windows and laminated to transparency, then cut the laminated parts, edged and formed. The card frames give the glue something to hold to.

Next up were the wing spars and upper wing.

All that's left now are the fuselage/wing spars, the gear, the prop and the vert. stabilizer. Home stretch. I'll have pics to Chris soon, then I might go back to run rigging if I feel daring.

cmags,

the oil cooler is mounted on the side of the oil tank. Even full scale, it is hardly noticeable. Sorry for the confusion here.

Thanks for the info, I added the cooler. You're right it is a tiny detail, you can't even see it on the photograph of the real plane!

Anyway, finished up the details - fuselage-wing struts, oil cooler, exhaust pipes, prop, and gear. Another DGA model complete, minus the rigging that I may go back and do after the competition.

And the shots I'm submitting to Chris for the site:

Thanks for stopping by!
