Global Hawk 1:100
Finished (more or less) a simple 1:100 scale RQ-4, block 20 (shorter wing) Global Hako - I mean Hawk. It's posted in the aviation downloads.
It's six part simple - just a bit of folding, glue the tabs, curve the top wing skins and match/glue the trailing edges and there you are. Construction is straightforward - score, cut and bend. Glue up the tabs - the fuselage box is the only complex assembly. Glue up one tab at a time, work symmetrically, glue sparingly. Fold up and secure the engine fan face last to give yourself access to the inside. The Global Hawk is just about square anyway - it just didn't seem worth the effort to work up a bunch of round parts. Seems to work in this scale, though you could cut down the "dome" and replace it with a rounded fairing engineered like an aircraft canopy. Didn't do landing gear as I plan to give this (these) to the nephew. For all of you - Merry Christmas! Yogi |

Yogi, Great kit!! :D Quick...Easy...Fun
I did put a 7-inch x 1/4-inch strip of .8mm card stock in the wings to give a little more strength. |

The Air Force Museum has one of those hanging from the ceiling in one of its hangers. That's pretty cool, Yogi. Scale it up, mount a camera, and buzz your neighbor
Merry Christmas!

Nicely done Jeff!
CD, my next iteration will be to build another in paper and see if I can balance and rig it to fly with the straw rocket launcher. Thanks Don, it ain't got treads but the Army is buying these things faster than the AF. Yogi |

Yogi, Thanks.
You're right about the Army buying up UAVs. From ones carried in back packs on up they are everywhere. Sure makes it nice, though to see what you're going into before you get there. I don't like surprises on the battlefield. Jeff |

Therefore, you may have to come up with a wing that features a longer chord or a shorter span. Ideally, a slow launch might also do the trick. So, I am thinking a very long straw so that you can build up launch speed. Whatever you do, I want to build one, too. It is too cool. In fact, I'll test out some of the ideas when you get a beta article to build. Happy New Year!

CD - the basic model is posted in the Aviation downloads (the launcher in the Toys & Automata section for lack of a better fitting category). I doubt I'll do much other than jam a straw in to start with and adjust the CG. You can get pretty fine control from the straw rocket launcher (better and more consistent than hand launching to tweak the aero).
