Well...your support for these kind of posts is rather overwhelming.
Of course I knew I wasn't offending anyone...but they just seemed like the wrong place to bring up the discussion. Hmmm. Let me think about this. HOWEVER - cdavenport, the "Simoniz" wax is an amusing story. I won't name units because this isn't the place. But Bill's Vietnam combat appointment was to an F-100 TF squadron. The service/readiness rate on the airplanes was poor. As you know AF culture, Commanders take ultimate pride in those numbers and know them to be key indicators of leadership and advancement. They're also a BIG indicator of morale. Bill's not a "Command/Control" kind of person - he's firm but humanistic and somewhat egalitarian (for a Commander). To make a long story short, Bill 'suggested' the F-100s be waxed and shined. It's totally outrageous, but...they were and when Bill left command, their squad was in the Top-5 (or top 3?) TF Squadrons in Vietnam...and they had a reputation as being the "Simoniz planes." I asked him if it was a lot of work and he said, "Uh. Yes. Have you seen airplane paint in the tropics?"

I have seen airplanes after a few months in the tropics and you would need a lot of Tcut to get the sheen back |

Wily, I may not answer in the tread, but I sure like to check out the stories, they are great.

Please stay put. The "aircraft" people visit here, but they don't always visit other forums as often. The stories inspire - ...
Thanks, Ken |

Another vote for you to keep your postings in this section of the Forum. They are relevant and, as you can see from the response, very much enjoyed and appreciated.
Anything relating to aviation history is, in my opinion, relevant to the building of paper models of aircraft. Don |

Let me throw my support in for staying put. I love the history part: from my stack of half completed projects its easy to see I like doing the history research as much as, if not more, then the building.
