Chris, it was funny this past weekend. I was picking up some wire at my hobby store (strictly a train and laser cut wood shop). We got to talking card models and I had to explain that it's 1:33 not 1:32 for card planes.

My preference is 1:33 scale with a 1:48 option. The model
I'm going to have a build on is scaled at 1:44th. This is a
scale that is between being too small and on the other hand
being too large. I plan on releasing the model in both 1:48th
and 1:33rd scales. The model at 1:48 will most likely fit on
letter size paper whereas the 1:33 will be on A3 (11x17)
On large paper models such as this B-17 at 1:33rd scale
the wingspan would be around 36" and the length at 28".
I feel it is a personal choice of everyone what they want to
print out size wise but the standards remain at 1/33 & 1/48
scales. Regards, Ron

I would say if you cant get it to 1:33 on letter paper I probably wouldnt bother myself. it cuts out too large of a segment of builders that would buy it for that reason then get peeved when they cant print it.... bombers are just fine at 1:48

Hello Chris,

it should be a nice idea, to have the option of two scales; for myself I prefer the 1:48 - it's near to the 1:50 scale on the market by Wilhelmshavener ...

With lovely greetings
the Wilfried

Model Scales

Hi Chris,

I prefer 1:33, with inclusions of 1:48.
I buy mostly 1:33 kits, with an occasional 1:48 (Roman's kits). I generally prefer larger scales, because of the detailing, plus the joints and edges are also less visible the larger scale you have. 1:24 is my favorite scale.

I would like a larger printer (A2+ size), to be able to handle 1:16 scale, too.

Best,
Bengt

Hi Chris,
I have another thought on the upsizing and downsizing of
paper models. The B-17 at builds good on 80lb cardstock. The
1/48 scale would most likely build good on 65lb cardstock or
index paper. I believe the 1/33rd scale would be good on 80lb,
90lb or 105lb. That's my opinion. Would be glad to see other
thoughts on this. I am concerned primarily because of former
fit in fuselage cowlings. Ron

Wen making those scale changes, it really comes down to the math (as Ron pointed out) and the old test fit, test fit, test fit.

I ran into that using the 100# bristol on my enlargement of kooklits Type VII U-boat. It didn't cause as man problems as I thought it would, but there were a few areas where test fitting really helped avoid mis-fits.
