Bell XP-59 Airacomet, NATC YF2L version

Here is the YF2L which was sent to NAS Patuxent River during 1944 for the US Navy to evaluate how well the XP-59 would do for carrier operations. The Airacomet was determined to be unsuitable for carrier operations.

I wanted to build up something quick, but not to elaborate. So I picked the NATC version of the XP-59 that I repainted a while back (one of the first repaints I did, available here: 1/32 Bell XP-59 Airacomet YF2L 3 versions Paper Model).

I had finished building it up tonight. I skipped many of the internal formers and did not put in the cockpit as I didn't want to make a canopy for this one. Reason is, of course, it's already been claimed by my youngest boy who will really put it through some good playtime. So since I had the urge to build something, but knew it will end up being crushed. I did asked him if I could get at least some pictures of the model before it went off to playtime war. I didn't get any in progress shots, so all we have are the final pictures.

And here she is:

I will probably be building up some other XP-59's that I've repainted that need photos for the Ecard store...and the boy is obviously gonna want more planes.

Looks good in those colors. I look forward to seeing more of your XP-59s (or anything else you build).

Very nice. A great build and it looks like a great kit, I really do like the color scheme.

Great build! Super color scheme! You said you wanted a quick project. How long did it take?

Thank you Dave. Total building time....I'd say about 4 hours. Mind you, I didn't include formers or the interior cockpit. Cutting and gluing all those parts out would increase build time.

Here is one thread (CLICK) which I did do the interior cockpit, 12 days from first to last post and I usually work about 1 to 2 hours per day on builds. I'm bad though....this build is still sitting without landing gear. When I was doing this build, I got the bug to repaint all the different models available on Ecards.

Then there is the first repaint I did which I built completely, but didn't form a canopy. I forget the total time to build. Thaipaperwork XP-59 Airacomet Repaints

But if you notice the date of my last post from the first thread was 5/18 and then the post from the second thread, 5/21, so it was pretty quick build after I repainted the model. I'd say total, less than 8 to 10 hours each model kit. Leaning to 6.

Excellent model, Robert.
I would like to know if any of the natural metal / aluminum recolors are represented as light gray or with metallic gradients finish.

Jose, I responded to your PM, but for others who want to know. In each repaint kit, there is a colored version, a very light gray colored one to represent bare metal finish and then there is also a non-colored version (black and white) if you desire to print onto metal finished paper or silver colored paper.

Not tonight (5/1/21), but in a day or two, I will screenshot some pages and add them to the listings so you can see what each version looks like. I had those in the previous version of Ecardmodels, but the server crash lost those screenshots.
