Re: JT Fox Beta Build Request

Thanks Nothing. It's a nice model to work with.
My apologies to JTF for not updating in the last few days. I had to rethink my sequencing as I was working working on the fuselage and that really helped. I have a few pictures of my limited progress to share. I've tried building the nose from the bottom up as mentioned earlier and that really helped. It twisted the sides a little bit, but I added some .5mm card for reinforcement. I tried to show that in photo 3. Photo 1 shows fuselages #2 and #3. By attaching the nose piece before the top of the cowling, it was easier to get a good fit.
I'll update more a little later.

Re: JT Fox Beta Build Request

Thanks for the update.

When it's finished I'll use you build reports as a guide to writing the instructions.

That nose was very hard to do in 2D. It goes in, up and back at the same time.

The problems you've had with former size have me thinking about using 2D design. I've started my next plane in 2D and had the same issues. One former had to be increased to 105% and another reduced to 95%. This all means the fuselage will fat in one area and thin in another. If they all needed 105% then I could increase the length of the fuselage by the same amount to compensate.

I've put the 2D design on hold and have started a 3D version. It's going have the same design philosophy just in 3D. I'll post a design thread after the first test build are taken.

Cheers JTF

Re: JT Fox Beta Build Request

As promised, here's another update showing what seems to look like progress. The fuselage has a tail now and the wing fillers were attached. I think that I really muffed the wing fillers. Once wet from the glue, they formed ok but there are still gaps at the front of the wing around to the bottom. JTF, is this what you had in mind?
I'm going to let it rest for the remainder of the evening. Time to go into Pinewood Derby Mode for a few hours.

Re: JT Fox Beta Build Request

That's a great job your doing there Zot. Much appreciate the effort your putting in.

When I did my test build I made some cuts on the vertical part of the wing filler to help it round the curves.

Re: JT Fox Beta Build Request

Zot,

I have found out why the former was the wrong size.

I told you to put it in the wrong place, It should have been further back.

Chris,

I'll email you a revised build guide shortly.

Cheers JTF

Re: JT Fox Beta Build Request

JTF,
I can se that making a difference :D. These pics are severely overdue, but I wanted to find the right way to display your model. I think that I came up with a pretty good way.
I thought that the 108's sport/race plane markings would look natural rounding a pylon. As you can see, I used the Ecardmodels scale cube as the pylon. I hope you like it.

As far as the rest of the build went, there wasn't anything major to mention. Once I got around the fuselage sequencing everything went smoothly...once I got back to it. Sorry that it took so long. I did have to trim the bottom frame away from the windscreen to help the fit to the cowling. I don't think that I mentioned it before. It doesn't take away from the looks of the plane without it so I would just mention that as a side note if needed for fit issues. I did assemble the landing gear to show, but I don't know where I put them so they didn't make it into the photo session.
