"The Secret in Building 26" by DeBrosse and Burke. A very interesting perspective on the NCR contribution to building an Enigma decoding machine. Written from an American viewpoint and explorers the distrust and uncomfortable alliance between the British and American intellegence communities. It is also facinating to me that even after 50 years these secrets were taken to the grave by most of the participants. Contrast that to today's headlines.....

Iain M. Banks "The Hydrogen Sonata" - latest one of the "Culture" novels. I think Banks is an acquired taste - reminds me of the Ignoble Prizes - "Makes you laugh, then makes you think".

Just finished "The Lost City of Z: A tale of deadly obsession in the Amazon" by David Grann. Not fiction, well-researched and written. Grann writes for The New Yorker. This book introduced my to Percy Fawcett, a wonderful character like the explorer Richard Burton, who mapped the Amazon back before WW1, Fawcett was obsessed with finding a large lost city (one of the old tales of El Dorado), and disappeared in the Amazon jungle himself in 1925. Grann is drawn into the search to find out what happened to Fawcett, and goes to the Amazon himself. The ending blew me away. He figures it all out.
If you like that stuff, there is a great tale from Yemen "The Road to Ubar" by Nicholas Clapp.
